World Cup Match Preview: USA vs. Germany (Group G)

World Cup Match Preview: USA vs. Germany (Group G)

Match Date: 26 June 2014 (local time)

Venue: Recife

USA looks forward to topping Germany in Group G as both teams conclude the last leg of the Group Stage.

Jurgen Klinsmann and his men displayed a nerve-wrecking performance against Portugal, which (partially) guarantees them of the runner-up spot in the group. On the other hand, Germany had to be content with a draw after Ghana’s defence made them bleed in their goal-scoring department.

What happened?

USA

USA took advantage of the injury issues that crippled Portugal. They might have less scoring attempts, but their conversion rate, was superb. It enabled them to make a come-back after the renowned Manchester United winger, Nani scored an early goal and true enough, Paulo Bento’s jubilation was plain temporary.

Jermaine jones responded on the 2nd half and the reliable Clint Dempsey eventually took the lead. Unfortunately, a late minute header by Silvestre Varela forced USA to be content with an even steven finish.

Yet, with an impressive performance against Ghana and a competitive goal difference record to brag about, the draw hardly affects USA chances, they are, indeed, advancing to the Round of 16.

Germany

Die Mannschaft was expected to dominate the match against the Black Stars. However, the latter’s outstanding defence made it hard for them to score.

The match’s and Germany’s first goal came during the 2nd half, courtesy of Mario Gotze. But just when the Germans though they had control, Ghana responded with two (2) consecutive goals. Andre Ayew and Asamoah Gyan almost caused an upset. But towards the end of the match, a determined, Miroslav Klose scored the equalizer. He also joins Brazil’s Ronaldo in the list of players who have scored the most goals in a World Cup match. Both Ronaldo and Klose have fifteen (15) points.

Prediction

World Cup betting tips continue to eye for Germany as the match’s favorite. But Die Mannschaft supporters cannot fully celebrate yet as USA is very much able to steal the show or force a draw.
