World Cup Match Preview: Japan vs. Greece (Group C)

World Cup Match Preview: Japan vs. Greece (Group C)

Match Date: 19 June 2014 (local time)

Venue: Natal

Japan and Greece’s last competitive encountered took place during the 2005 Confederations’ Cup and it was the Samurai Blue, which emerged as the stronger squad. Now, the two teams will meet again. The other seeks for revenge, while the other anticipates a repeat.

For the second time around, can Japan dominate? Or will Greece cause a major upset?

Japan had an impressive moment against Ivory Coast. Keisuke Honda’s goal on the 16th almost set the pace for the mighty samurais not until Didier Drogba entered during the second half.

Drogba’s presence immediately delivered results. On the 64th, Wilfried Bony took the equalizing shot and two (2) minutes after, Gervinho took the lead for the Elephants as Japan’s defence crumbled like a house of cards.

The match ended with Japan trailing Ivory Coast with a goal (2-1).

Greece suffered a major blow against the injury-stricken Colombia. Despite Radamel Falcao’s absence, this did not prevent the Los Cafeteros from stepping up their attacking and defensive departments.

Colombia did not only score three (3) goals, they also kept a clean sheet against the aggressive Greek squad.

World cup betting tips root for Japan as favorite of the match, with odds pegged at 1.94 and Asian handicap ranging from 0-0.5.

The outcome between the Elephants and Samurai Blue readily showed the latter’s scoring abilities. This is in stark contrast to Greece’s seemingly lackluster performance. However, if Japan is determined to advance, they need to work on their defence and prevent its opponent from creating scoring opportunities and most importantly, delivering results.

Greece may feature as it is also keen on advancing. But then again, they need to produce goals. It has a quite (massive) goal difference to attend to, which therefore, increases the pressure to win its remaining matches.
