World Cup Match Preview: Japan vs. Colombia (Group C)

Match Date: 24 June 2014 (local time)

Venue: Cuiaba

Colombia is eyeing for its 3rd consecutive win in the tournament at Japan’s expense. The Los Cafeteros just trampled its closest rival, Ivory Coast and is determined to advance to the next round, unscathed.

Japan, however, is eager to steal the limelight from the Elephants. The Samurai Blues chances of surviving the first stage remains high. But they must hope that Ivory Coast bows down to Greece in order for them to advance.

What happened?

After losing to Ivory Coast, Japan forced a scoreless stalemate against Greece and reaped a point that shed some light into their survival chances. But winning alone will not guarantee an automatic spot in the Round of 16. As mentioned, Greece will have to beat Ivory Coast.

Shinji Kagawa who was sidelined in the starting XI against Greece may see himself back into the starting lineup. Unfortunately, Makoto Hasebe’s condition remains doubtful due to an alleged injury. Nevertheless, Yasuhito Endo could readily take his place.

Colombia’s strength is readily manifested in this tournament. Even without Radamel Falcao, who was expected to lead the club into the latter stages of the competition, the team was able to clinch two (2) consecutive wins and therefore, top their group. Although already assured of a spot in the Round of 16, the squad is determined to set a perfect record in the group stage.

Colombia is the evident favorite of world cup betting tips. Japan could feature though as it will take every opportunity to advance to the next stage.
