World Cup Match Preview: Germany vs. Algeria (Round of 16)

World Cup Match Preview: Germany vs. Algeria (Round of 16)

Match Date: 30 June 2014 (local time)

Venue: Porto Alegre

Algeria made a shocking entry to the Round of 16 despite predictions of their early exit. Unfortunately, its head honcho, Vahid Halilhodzic and the rest of his squad have no plans of waving the white flag. The whole Algerian camp is eager to avenge itself from the humiliation it received from Germany during the 1982 World Cup.

With more than a decade of World Cup grudge, Algeria will not waste the opportunity to settle their unfinished business with Germany.

On the other hand, if Algeria is determined to have its taste of revenge, Die Mannschaft is hungry for victory. They almost made it during their last two (2) World Cup appearances. The disappointing results will be Germany’s motivation to face Algeria’s fury and settle this matter once and for all.

The clashing squads

Germany

Germany stands as the match’s world cup betting  favorite, sporting an almost invincible squad. The depth of its team form, coupled with the top-notch calibre of its players, are the key ingredients to its success.

Miroslav Klose is keen on clinching the record of scoring the most number of World Cup goals from Brazil’s Ronaldo, so expect a different kind of boost to Germany’s attacking department.

However, Klose is not the sole player that Algeria should focus on. Thomas Muller is also on a scoring rampage.   A Golden Boot awardee during the 2010 World Cup, he looks forward to getting another Golden Boot trophy.

Germany, however, shall miss LukasPodolski, who incurred a muscle injury during the USA encounter.

Algeria

It is hard to ignore Algeria’s struggle to advance to the next stage. They almost tore down Belgium and scoring four (4) goals against South Korea were plain terrific. Upsetting Russia was even more shocking.

Revenge is not Coach Vahid’s sole motivator in this match. Advancing to the latter stage will put Algeria into the pedestal of success in African football.

Sofiane Feghouli will always be Algeria’s main man. But who knows if Algeria’s roster of scoring-hungry players emerge just like what transpired during the South Korea match.

Prediction

It is evident that Germany has the upper-hand. Algeria can put up a scare though, thus, forcing Die Mannschaft to be more careful and clinical.
