WC Qualifications Preview: Panama vs. Jamaica

WC Qualifications Preview: Panama vs. Jamaica

The first quarter of the year saw Jamaica and Panama battle out in the fourth round of the FIFA World Cup Qualifications (CONCACAF) at the Independence Park sports complex, whereby a draw was decided by the end of the match 1-1. The home side scored the first goal via Marvin Elliott at 23 minutes. Luis Henriquez wrapped up the match to a draw after securing a satisfactory strike at 66 minutes.

This September 7, The Reggae Boyz and The Canal Men will make their last encounter for the year’s FIFA qualifications, with Panama now serving as the home side. The event will take place at the Estadio Rommel Fernández.

The latest rankings put both teams at the bottom of the table (out of six teams), with Panama just one spot higher than Jamaica. Recent individual matches for each side are also consistent with the placements. Panama’s latest matches were mainly victories, cultivating Gold Cup successes over Mexico 2-1, Cuba 6-1, and Martinique 1-0. A draw was obtained when they competed against Canada 0-0, and were defeated in an encounter with the United States 1-0.

Jamaica, meanwhile, seem to not be having a lucky line of matches to embroider their record. They had to painfully endure defeats in their most recent WC qualifications tourneys, including one against Honduras 2-0, and another with the United States 1-2. The last draw decision they had was the March 23 match with their current opponents, Panama.

While both sides are not necessarily showing any sign of reinvention to make their rankings rise a little higher, Julio Dely Valdés’ men are certainly in the better form to subdue Winfried Schäfer’s squad and have the greater capacity to sway supporters to bet online in their favor. Panama have won at least once (plus three draws) in this year’s installment of the World Cup Qualifications, while Jamaica only have two draws to accentuate their streak (the rest are letdowns, thus far).
