WC Qualifications (CONMEBOL) Preview: Bolivia vs. Ecuador

WC Qualifications (CONMEBOL) Preview: Bolivia vs. Ecuador

Ecuador

Matchday 16 of the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying rounds will see four pairs wrestle in their respective fixtures. For Bolivia and Ecuador, the tourney is yet another pedestal for both of them to attain impression from their supporters, dominate World Cup betting trends, and acquire definite admission to next year’s Brazil tournament. The match will kick-off on September 10 at the Estadio Hernando Siles in La Paz with Paulo Oliveira to serve as referee.

Bolivia’s pulse in the World Cup

Bolivia’s last stint in the group stage of the World Cup was nearly two decades ago, in 1994. That nostalgic event was marred by an early defeat from Germany 1-0 and the abolition of the nation’s then best player Marco Etcheverry just a few minutes after coming on as a substitute. Since then, the side have never been able to go back to the finals.

In their campaign for next year’s possible admission to FIFA’s most esteemed event, Bolivia have remained meek toward making any spectacle. Of their last five matches in the qualifying rounds, the side managed to win only once. The other four were divided equally between draw and defeat.

Ecuador maintain a strong form

The Ecuadorian team have been able to appear in the World Cup two times, both in the 21st Century. Their 2006 stint was considered to be the national squad’s highest achievement in the tournament in that they were able to advance to the Round of 16 despite eventually being eliminated by England.

Ecuador have a relatively good form in terms of their World Cup Qualification record. Of the last five matches that they dueled in, two were utterly riveting successes: against Chile 3-1 and Paraguay 4-1. Another two matches were forced in a draw (with Venezuela 1-1 and Argentina 1-1). They were only defeated once by Peru 0-1 in an uncomfortable away match.

Triumph anticipated for…

Ecuador’s current ranking in the World Cup Qualification table for CONMEBOL is at number three, while Bolivia is at number eight (out of nine). As per FIFA rankings, the former are pegged at the 17th spot, still ahead of the latter which are at number 64. In addition, Bolivia have never been able to win in any of the last five (or so) matches that they had with Ecuador. Hence, this upcoming match will inevitably finish in the last-mentioned side’s favor.
