Team Brazil: The Road to the FIFA World Cup 2014

Team Brazil: The Road to the FIFA World Cup 2014

This year’s hosts are the only football national team in history to have won the World Cup in four different continents: Europe (1), South America (1), North America (2), and Asia (1). Also among the world’s strongest contenders, Brazil have achieved the title five times―the most for any team. They last triumphed in the 2002 Japan/Korea edition.

Confidence is not necessarily a problem for Selecao especially that they have successfully built up a motivational platform by winning the Confederations Cup. According to football legend Pele, “Brazil who are known for their attack line now are well prepared from the midfield to the back.”

Perhaps, Brazil’s most viable bullet to win this year’s title is the presence of Neymar― SportsPro’s most marketable athlete in the world and the recipient of the Golden Ball award in the 2013 Confederations Cup.

Knocking out Spain from the title may seem very plausible for the World Cup betting favorites.

“We know Spain is the best team in the world and that they have the best players in the world,” said Neymar. “We respect them and I admire them a lot, but when the match starts we have full confidence that we can play well to beat them. We can’t be afraid. It’s tough to wait for a match like this. We will be playing for our families, our friends, but above all for the Brazilian nation. We are ready for what will be a historic match.”

The resurgence of Brazil and the individual performances of Neymar could be central to the tournament’s success. Pele, however, noted that Brazil are not the only strong team in the slate. Portugal have Cristiano Ronaldo while Argentina have Leo Messi. He specifically considered the latter to be a major threat, citing the player to be among the best in the world. Regardless, he remains optimistic that Selecao could still claim the top spot, especially now that they are hosting the event.
