Saborio’s Successful Operation Not Enough To Join Costa Rica In Brazil

Saborio’s Successful Operation Not Enough To Join Costa Rica In Brazil

Despite Alvaro Saborio’s successful foot surgery, Costa Rica’s reliable poacher will not make it to the 2014 World Cup.

The trusted forward will need to rest for 3 to 4 months before he immerse himself in intense sports training. Saborio “ broke his fifth metatarsal bone” in a closed door training session. The unfortunate event resulted in an operation in which a screw was inserted and a bone marrow was injected into the injured part to promote healing. According to the club’s team doctor, only when the healing takes place will they let Saborio play to avoid further damages.

Crossing out Saborio’s name in the final cut was not easy for the club’s top brass, Jorge Luis Pinto. Pinto explained that he carefully considered the doctor’s opinion in making such decision. He also hoped a speedy recovery for Saborio.

Saborio’s injury is another blow to Costa Rica’s attacking plans. The squad has already lost Bryan Oviedo, who, like Saborio, was also heavily affected by an unexpected injury. With two of their trusted players out of the World Cup, Pinto needs to make a major adjustment to ensure their survival chances in the competition.

Pinto is now placing much of his hopes to Joel Campbell, who had a fruitful season at the Greek club, Olympiacos Piraeus. Likewise, he will take advantage of PSV Eindhoven’s trusted Bryan Ruiz.

Grouped with England, Uruguay and Italy, Costa Rica is the least favorite of world cup betting odds and is valued with winning odds of 2.85.
