Russia Upsets Armenia In Friendly

Fabio Capello expressed his satisfaction over the top-notch performance of his Russian squad against Armenia despite his players’ “different shape.”

It only took Russia forty-three (43) minutes to finish their friendly clash with Armenia. The team scored two (2) goals courtesy of Alexander Kokorin and Dmitiry Kombarov, which left the Armenian squad paralyzed.
According to Capello, his satisfaction stems from the squad’s ability to be a strong and cohesive force on the pitch despite the individual differences that his players experience.
Russia’s head honcho considers Armenia as a “serious rival. “ He acknowledged that their opponent pressed them with an aggressive and resilient approach, which made the encounter even more memorable.

However, despite the win, Capello stressed that it is important for his players to think of “making progress” in each and every friendly or World Cup matches hat they encounter. He also defended his decision of retaining Roman Shirokov’s captaincy in the squad.

Shirikov’s decision of moving to a less popular club gained the attention of many. This is most especially true concerning his captaincy in the national squad. Capello stressed that he has no influence over issues within the domestic league and that he has “no problem” with Shirikov’s move.

It took Russia eight (8) long years before they qualified in the World Cup again. Although they are the least favorite within their group’s World Cup bets, they defied the odds and qualified in this year’s competition.

To note, Russia’s best performance was entering the Group Stage. Under Capello’s tutelage, they are expected to make a stronger finish.
