Ronaldo Arrives At Portugal’s Training Camp

After a dramatic Champions League victory, Portugal’s team captain and 2013 Ballon d’Or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo joined its teammates in Obidos as they prepare for the upcoming 2014 World Cup.

Ronaldo is not the sole entity that will arrive at Obidos. Along with him are his Real Madrid teammates, Pepe and Fabio Coentrao. The three (3) were given extra rest days to replenish their strength after a tedious and pressure-drive Champions League match against rival, Atletico Madrid.

However, Ronaldo will most likely spend majority of his training time in “rehab.” Despite the impressive Champions League performance, the squad’s captain has not yet fully recovered from a muscle injury, which he incurred prior to the last leg of the season. Likewise, he is doubtful if he can participate in a friendly pitted against Greece. During the battle for La Decima,  he stated that “ he was not at his 100%.”

Ronaldo’s invaluable contributions to the Portuguese contingent transcends beyond taking the captain’s role. An aggressive striker and a certified poacher, he is Portugal’s top scorer, with forty-nine (49) goals under his belt.

Portugal is one of the top favorites among world cup bets. Grouped with Germany, Ghana and USA, it is expected to finish as Germany’s runner-up in the group stage, with odds valued at 3.70.

Portugal has never won the World Cup. Its strongest finish was in 1966 where it bagged the 3rd spot. Currently, the squad eyes for a spot in the final. This was after a disappointing finish during the 2010 tournament, where it exited early.
