Nigeria Allocates NGN 1.6 B To Support WC Training

Following reports of choosing Houston in the United States as their training camp and (determination) to “leaving no stone unturned,” Nigeria’s Federal Government, released a  NGN 1.6 B budget for the country’s national football squad, the Super Eagles.
According to reports, the said amount was different from the allocated fund given by the Nigeria Football Federation. It was a “special grant” aimed to cover not only the expenses participating in the tournament, but also the national squad’s training costs. Such decision was made to ensure that the Super Eagles have all the support to stand out in the said competition.

Nigeria has been a familiar face in the competition since they qualified on 1994. They managed to make it to the Round 16 in both 1994 and 1998 until they made an early exit in the Group Stage during the 2002 World Cup. They suffered a major blow in 2006 when they were unable to make it to Germany. But they were able to bounce back last 2010 and had a short stint in the Group Stage.

The entry of Stephen Keshi in 2011 saw an unconventional, yet effective approach, when he began to introduce capped and uncapped players on the pitch. During the qualifiers, the squad dominated the 2-legged playoffs against Ethiopia, which earned them their 6th World Cup berth.

The Super Eagles is set to meet Mexico on a friendly this 05 March 2014 as part of their preparations for the said event. They are also pitted on a friendly against Scotland on May.

Without disregarding the dead heat rule, Nigeria’s World Cup odds are valued at 3.80. They are seen as one of the top African nations to make it to the competition.
