Officials of the Football Federation of Kenya (FKF) are under siege after reports of missing funds coming from FIFA and other organizations cropped out.

The country’s Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) thorough investigation of this matter came about when alleged reports said that officials have misused around $410,000 worth of donations.

According to the commission’s public relation chief, Yasin Ayila said they will be scrutinizing all the involved accounts. Financial statements, bank accounts and reports shall be examined as well.

The controversy sprung up when Hussein Terry, football representative of Coast Province presented documents and bank statements, which show the fund misuse. Reports said Terry furnished copies of the said evidence to Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Hassan Wario, FIFA and Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Along with Terry was Nyanza province’s representative, Tom Alila and his vice chairman, Sammy Sholei. The three (3) claimed that the above-mentioned amount was credited in bank accounts, but were not reflected in the financial report. Included in the alleged missing fund are FIFA’s Financial Assistance programme, national team sponsorship, revenue generated from the World Cup qualifier against Nigeria and lastly, television sponsorship for a match against Jamaica—which never materialized.

Meanwhile, FKF chairman, Sam Nyamweya stressed that there is no truth to the said allegations and that the documents presented were “fake.” He added that even the federation’s bankers denied that the bank statements came from them.

Kenya has been struggling from mismanagement for ten (10) years. This resulted to its suspension from two (2) FIFA competitions. In the soccer world cup qualifiers in 2014, the country has again, failed to qualify.
