José Pékerman: Tactical Management Would Be Best for Colombia

Clinical and heavily skilled on creating strategies, José Pékerman selects the “best players” that he thinks are fit for his coaching style. He advocates for harmony between him and his men while trying to keep abreast of the resources that could improve his team’s form even further. As Colombia manager and their best hope (aside from Radamel Falcao, of course) at bagging a place in the FIFA World Cup 2014, the Argentine native ensures that his genius mind-set will figure prominently in his side’s Brazil fixtures through the excellent displays of his players.

The Colombia side have considerable strength in depth and quality, with Pékerman’s tactically incisive coaching skills serving as a cornerstone. They have not been without some difficulties, but they are primed to navigate their group (which also includes Greece, Ivory Coast, and Japan) with ease.

Pékerman had made extraordinary starts with Los Cafeteros in the World Cup qualifications in 2012. He booked his side in four wins out of five fixtures and renewed the Colombians’ trust in the national team after he seemingly reestablished the golden form of the squad that they possessed (and left behind) in the 1990s. In fact, he was nicknamed “Superman” for the victories he scored for the national ensemble.

However, Pékerman was not without controversies and criticisms. He was panned for abandoning the winning formula he used against Bolivia (where they won over them in a 5-0 result) in favor of experimenting with a much riskier approach. The side lost to Venezuela as a consequence of this. Fortunately, they have collected enough points to secure seeding in FIFA’s top-tier competition.

All eyes will be on Los Cafeteros this summer, and they best deliver if they do not want a storm of condemnations flood into their ears.
