Intense Motivation Compensates Ecuador’s “Lack Of Experience”

A team filled with “motivation,” this is how Ecuador’s head honcho, Reinaldo Rueda described his squad after enduring a tedious qualifying round and mourning the sudden death of striker, Christian “Chuchu” Benitez.

La Tri’s entry into the completion is one that is not free of doubts and criticisms. During the qualifiers, the national squad has been impressive in their home matches. Their almost perfect home run, forced their opponents to throw the white towel, except for Argentina wherein they had no choice but to be contented with a draw.

However, Ecuador’s defining moment—the one which, sealed their World Cup berth, was an even steven finish against Uruguay. The stalemate enabled them to outrank the Uruguayans. The latter was therefore, forced to go through a tiring 2-legged playoffs against Jordan in order to make it to the most awaited competition,

Despite the superb display, the club has been questioned in terms of their “lack of World Cup experience.” Unable to qualify in 2010, the squad had to wait for eight (8) long years before they made it to the big stage again.

Yet, as Rueda described the squad, their motivation and discipline shall be their main ingredients in creating an impression in the said competition. The truth to Ecuador’s intense motivation is clearly exemplified by Felipe Calcedo’s move to Al Jazira instead of returning to Spain.

Other than having a regular shot at the starting XI, the playing time will also prove to be beneficial to Calcedo’s contribution in the Worldcup as he will have more competitive matches to participate with and assess his strength.

Prior to the tournament, Ecuador shall conduct friendlies against Australia, Netherlands, Mexico and Brazil. World Cup betting odds at 2.50 predict France and Ecuador to advance in the next stage. One is expected to generate a decent value based from such odds.
