FIFA World Cup update: Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo will fully recuperate in time for the finals

FIFA World Cup update: Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo will fully recuperate in time for the finals

He may have sustained a thigh injury towards the club season’s conclusion but Cristiano Ronaldo will be fully recovered even before the whole Portugal team land on Brazil for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. However, this does require extra caution and Ronaldo, along will other injured players, must rest in the benches and skip a few pre-World Cup friendlies in order to avoid dangerous trauma to their body.

“We are confident Ronaldo will be at 100%,” said Portugal striker Silvestre Varela. “He has worked from morning to night to achieve that, he is an excellent professional; I am sure he will be in great shape when we arrive in Brazil.”

Ronaldo and teammate Pepe were both removed from the slate in a friendly versus Greece on Saturday due to health concerns. The match eventually ended in a goalless deadlock. Ronaldo has to take in more time to nurse his thigh problem while Pepe has yet to recover from his calf injury.

“We’re not going to set down a calendar for his return to competition,” A Selecção top brass Paulo Bento said of Ronaldo’s timeframe before adding that the team would take “no risk” with the Real Madrid attacker’s health.

Portugal are seeded in Group G alongside Germany, the United States, and Ghana. Of this list, their steepest rivals would be the Germans.
