FIFA World Cup update: Messi vows to re-energize Argentina at the World Cup

FIFA World Cup update: Messi vows to re-energize Argentina at the World Cup

Amid his seemingly low-key performance in Europe for the past season, Argentina captain Lionel Messi ensures that La Albiceleste will regain the World Cup title after almost three decades since their resounding success in 1986.

It should be noted that the South American team have not been able to replicate their bombastic performances in the ‘70s and ‘80s despite consistently reaching stages beyond the Group round. Messi—who is considered one of the greatest footballers in world today—however, has shown so much zeal since the 2010 South Africa World Cup—particularly in the two La Liga seasons following that global competition. He might have plummeted in the charts a little in the recently concluded season but he vows to show a much better version of him once he and his team set foot to Brazil.

“As I join up with the national team, the atmosphere is completly different,” said the 26-year old forward. “Many times in the past when I have gone back to Barcelona, I have played well. Now I am hoping that the opposite happens.”

Messi revealed that many of his league club Barca teammates suffered a ‘lack of energy’ in the 2013-14 term, which might have caused their failure to defend their La Liga title and reach the finals of the UEFA Champions League. He aims to not mimic the same fate for Argentina in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Messi is commited to train with maximum energy to produce the best displays he can possible carry out. “When I return to the training ground with my team-mates, with my friends, it’s going to change my mentality and it’s going to be another story,” he further remarked.

In the attack, La Albiceleste are a monster. They also present a deep well of talents in the defense. After quarterfinal exits in Germany in 2006 and South Africa in 2010, Argentinians expect for a much better showing in Brazil.
