FIFA World Cup update: Ivory Coast players rest to combat fatigue

Like any other national teams who qualified for the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals, Ivory Coast are beefing up their game to secure a place that is, hopefully, way beyond the group stage. However, the side’s players have a varying degree of physical fitness and pushing them to their limits as early pre-final matches would prove impractical and fatal. Hence, Sabri Lamouchi makes sure that his men will be sufficiently rested by the time they arrive at Brazil. Resting to avoid fatigue is just as important as training vigorously.

The Ivory Coast team are currently training in Dallas, Texas to better prepare them for the world stage. Not all members have been given enough game time in their respective clubs, hence working very hard in their training camp will not be a big issue. However, for those who have received substantial caps in their club’s league or continental tilts, a much bigger room for rest and longer time of recovery is critically needed.

“Players like (Salomon) Kalou, Gervinho and (Wilfried) Bony have had long seasons,” said Lamouchi. “The idea is to get to a level of consistency in our fitness after our first week of training and before, or just after, the match against Bosnia. We want the players as close as possible to a 100 percent capacity.”

Les Éléphants are set to play against Bosnia and Herzegovina in St. Louis on May 30 for a friendly, which will then be followed by another warm-up match against El Salvador in Dallas on June 4. By June 6, they would already be in Brazil. They are seeded in Group C alongside Colombia, Greece, and Japan.
