FIFA World Cup Opening Recap: Group F

FIFA World Cup Opening Recap: Group F

At the preliminaries for Group F, matches did not necessarily finished bad but they were not mind-boggling either. Argentina finished as the only winning squad from the group after they defeated Bosnia-Herzegovina on a 2-1 final tally. Iran and Nigeria earned only one point apiece after they produced the 2014 FIFA World Cup very first draw match.

World Cup betting Argentina did not look like their vintage reputation, but their performance was good enough to ensure their fans of a victorious opener. The 2-1 win against Bosnia-Herzegovina was a thriller on most parts but fell short of a truly breathtaking show. As expected, star player Messi scored. An early own goal by the Bosnians helped Albiceleste double their lead. The match almost finished in a clean sheet but Vedad Ibisevic rallied late to prevent his side from leaving the pitch goalless.

For Iran and Nigeria, the drought for goals started early for them. Both squads earned a scoreless result in their curtain raiser, producing the World Cup’s first stalemate for this edition. Nigeria created plenty of chances but none of which were successfully converted; nevertheless, they showcased a very reliable defense that their Asian rivals failed to destroy. They managed to dominate possession but lost track of where and when to place the ball behind the net. Iran were similarly impressive in the defense but the lack of genuinely strong players hindered them from making a spectacle in the attack.

Argentina will remain the top seeds in this group but they must learn a few more tricks (and rely less on Messi) as their rivals are quite aggressive. Bosnia-Herzegovina had an okay debut (in spite of the loss) while Iran and Nigeria could push their limits a little more.
