FIFA Group E Qualifier Results

FIFA Group E Qualifier Results

A series of down the wire battles and encounters saw Switzerland booked its ticket to Brazil while Norway, Albania and Cyprus’ journey has already ended.

Meanwhile, Iceland and Slovenia remain as a play-off contender. With just a point that separates the two, expect both squads to fight tooth and nail.

Switzerland

Switzerland just booked its ticket to Brazil after clinching a 2-1 win against Albania. The Swiss only needed a single point to qualify. However, Xherdan Shaqiri and Michael Lang fired 2 decisive goals to ensure their entry into the Maracana.

Iceland

Iceland hangs on a one-point lead that it has over Slovenia. Although they kept Cyprus at bay, this did not earn them an automatic play-off spot. They can hope for Slovenia’s defeat against Switzerland. On their part, they need to pull off a victory against Norway. It is going to be a do or die battle for Iceland. They have already survived the first half of their journey and the next phase, still, waits for some answers

Slovenia

Milivoje Novakovic’s hat-trick permanently put an end to Norway’s  World Cup journey. The squad can still make it to the intercontinental play-offs. But they need to beat the already qualified, Switzerland. Surely, this match expects another hat-trick from Novakovic (if Switzerland permits it).

Norway, Albania and Cyprus

The World Cup journey of these squads has already ended. Nevertheless, all teams displayed world class football.

Cyprus lost to Iceland with a 2-0 score. On the other hand, Albania succumbed to Switzerland with a 2-1 defeat. Lastly, Slovenia thrashed Norway with a decisive 3-0 triumph.
