Empty-handed Brazil Exits World Cup

Empty-handed Brazil Exits World Cup

Brazil hoped for redemption after its humiliating loss to Germany at Belo Horizonte. Sadly, the host had to go home empty-handed. Netherlands was heralded as the third (3rd) best group in the competition despite the indifference felt toward the match.

It was a poor finish for Brazil. After featuring during the initial stages of the competition, the squad was unable to pull itself together when they went against Netherlands. The thrashing from Germany was simply too much to handle. Instead of using it as inspiration, it further subjected the host to another bout of humiliation.

Despite Thiago Silva’s entry, this barely helped the team to survive Netherlands’ relentless attacks. They had a few opportunities. But the Oranjes was quick to defend their ground, whilst Brazil looked disinterested.

Brazil’s lackluster performance was already evident during the early stage of the match. They granted a penalty to Robin van            ersie on the 3rd and after a few minutes, conceded a goal to Daley Blind. Netherlands entered the half time with a 2-point lead, but Georginio Wijnaldum rubbed more salt to Brazil’s wounds when he scored on the 90th minute of the match.

Scolari’s resignation

The Brazilian press is rallying for Luiz Felipe Scolari’s resignation. Yet, despite calls of stepping down his post, Scolari stressed that he entrust this decision to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF).

The scene-stealer

Oscar readily impressed during Netherlands’ faceoff. Unfortunately, his efforts did not pay off.

Defining moment

Brazil had its chance to score when Oscar launched a set piece. David Luiz and Paulinho both unleashed a header ensure that it enters the net. The ball was so close, but the play simply left Luiz and Paulinho knocked down on the ground.

Although Brazil’s loss was a bit expected, many are hoping that at the very least, they will put up a good fight. However, it all ended in a dismal and disappointing performance and defied even world cup betting odds.
