Colombia head to the quarter-finals with little pressure

The 2014 FIFA World Cup has been a major success for Colombia, who obtained seeding in the last eight for the very first time in their FIFA history. That said, they feel little pressure with regard to their brawl against host country Brazil. For Los Cafeteros, they have nothing to lose even if they fall prey to Brazil sharp talons. They have reached the near-apex of their World Cup campaign (so far) but with the prolific James Rodriguez still in tip-top shape following the feats he achieved in the earlier matches, Colombia can look forward to a brilliant clash in Fortaleza.

Colombia’s best position in the past World Cups has only been in the Round of 16, which they achieved in Italy in 1990. The next two editions only pinned them in the first round and from 2002 to 2010, they were not even in the finals. Hence, their current accomplishment in the quarter-finals (or even higher, depending on how they would fare against their hosts) has caused overly ecstatic responses from every Colombia fan.

James Rodriguez came out as the top seed from José Pékerman’s side, having netted five goals so far from four matches—the most for any player in the current edition. He is on his way to achieve a major award by the end of the competition. In fact, he has been dubbbed the “Budweiser Man of the Match” three times.

“We’re very happy because we are making history,” said James in a press interview. “As a younger man, I always wanted to be here. That was a great dream of mine and we hope that we can make it far… There is no pressure. Obviously [Brazil] have their good players; they play well but I believe they must also follow us closely.”
