Cesare Prandelli: Sublime Health is Key to Achieving Performance Summit for Italy Talents

Although Italy may not be the current top seeds to dominate the FIFA World Cup 2014, coach Cesare Prandelli firmly believes that his men could still pull some strings and even end up better than the best. His main focus is on Azzurri’s physical well-being, pointing out that the players’ tip-top shape will book them the ticket to reach the finals—their seventh appearance if it materializes. Italy were winners of the title in four different occasions and Prandelli is looking forward to attaining their fifth and match Brazil for having the most number of wins in FIFA’s most important tournament.

Italy are seeded alongside other favorites England, Uruguay, and Costa Rica in the Group stage. For Prandelli, the challenges posed by these teams will not be that nerve-racking. He has immense trust on his men’s well of skills and believes that his experience and unique approach to creating tactics are excellent factors to consider Italy for the top seat in the group.

“Brazil, Argentina, Germany and Spain are the favorites. Let’s leave from our mind that we are the strongest,” the former ACF Fiorentina coach expressed. “We are no more the best, but we can beat the best.”

Under Prandelli’s tutelage, Italy had some shortcomings but have always bounced back into the limelight for the resilience that they consistently radiate. The team’s campaign with the coach started off with a frustrating 0–1 loss to Côte d’Ivoire in a friendly match but during the 2012 Euro Qualifier, the side emerged from behind to topple Estonia 2–1. In the next UEFA Qualifier, Italy dominated the Faroe Islands 5–0 and then tied 0–0 with Northern Ireland. For the World Cup qualifications in 2012 and 2013, Italy were impressively unbeaten. Out of the 10 fixtures, they finished victorious six times and tied with their opponents only four times.
