Will Carlos Quiroz Stay At Team Melli?

Will Carlos Quiroz Stay At Team Melli?

Iran’s trusted winger, Ashkan Dejagah hopes that a “good World Cup run” will convince the Portuguese tactician, Carlos Quiroz to stay and continue managing the squad.

Concerns over Quiroz’s tenure cropped out as his contract will expire next month. This meant that he can easily leave the team after a few world cup matches. Reports have it that he might go to South Africa and lead the said squad again. However, the above-mentioned stories are yet to be confirmed.

Dejagah implied that convincing Quiroz is not easy. Yet, advancing to the next round will give their current head honcho a mountain of reasons to stay.

Quiroz’s stay at Team Melli has been filled by constant challenges. While its Asian counterparts, to be more specific, South Korea has already embarked into a couple of international friendlies, such pre-World Cup preparations tend to be an (elusive luxury) for the squad.

In instances wherein friendly encounters have been successfully booked, Team Melli was forced to cancel the meeting due to funding issues and lack of government support. Classic examples of these were the friendly arranged against Ghana. Likewise, the perceived training camp in Portugal did not materialize due to the above-mentioned problem.

However, despite the challenges that the squad confronts, Quiroz is hopeful that his extensive experience will help Team Melli feature and “do wonders” during the awaited competition.

Iran is considered a minnow in the competition. Grouped against title contender, Argentina and equally aggressive squads such as debutant Bosnia Herzegovina and goal conscious Nigeria, Iran is valued to win at profitable odds of 7.50.
