Ange Postecoglou: He Needs a Solid Plan to Earn Australia Some Points

Newly appointed Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou knows that time flies in a light-year distance and he is only given a limited number of weeks before he can fully prepare Australia for the World Cup. Thus, what his men do between now and then is going to be very crucial. He admits that the World Cup came in “four years too early” for him given that he has only been in-charge of the team a few months ago. Nevertheless, he said that “it is what it is.”

Despite the limited time he has, the former Melbourne Victory boss does not seem to be intimidated. In fact, he stressed that he does not trust luck to secure all the useful opportunities. He got little time but he has plenty of resources to rely on.

“’We’ll prepare absolutely in the best possible manner to be ready,” Postecoglou pointed out. “And we will be ready.”

Australia are seeded alongside Chile, last edition’s runners up Netherlands, and defending champions Spain, in Group B. This means that Postecoglou is faced with a very cumbersome challenge. His men are young and relatively inexperienced. In fact, he has not yet come up with his final line-up although he is casting his net wide and compiling a database on players of interest. He believes, however, that the Australian team will make some surprises in Brazil. He does not expect a really stunning display against the aforesaid teams, but he is looks forward to Australia having their best World Cup performances at least on a national level.

“At the end of the day, regardless of our draw we’re at home and we’re playing at a major tournament in our country and we want to do well,” he remarked.
