2014 World Cup Update : Group B

2014 World Cup Update : Group B

Comprised by Spain, Netherlands, Chile and Australia, this group promises exciting football matches to its legion of supporters. Take a look at what these squads are up to in the tournament.

Spain

Spain is confident that its renowned tiki-taka style will help them successfully defend their title in the 2014 World Cup.

Characterized by its short, fast and accurate passing, tiki-taka enables the squad to retain possession, thus, giving them more scoring opportunities. Spain used tiki-taka during their 2010 World Cup campaign and they won.

Xavi, the squad’s creative playmaker stressed that they have proven the effectiveness of the said playing style and that they will either “win or die” using this approach.

Other than tiki-taka, Spain also draws strength from their “winning mentality,” which is evident in Diego Costa’s determination to overcome his injury.

Costa has been enduring a hamstring problem that prevented him from featuring during the Champions League final against Real Madrid. The talismanic striker caught the attention of many not only because of his injury scare, but also for the treatment that he sought.

According to reports, Costa even went to Serbia to have his dose of placenta treatment and it looks like it was worth the long trip.

If Spain wins, La Roja will join Brazil in the list of squads, which have successfully won a back-to-back World Cup title.

Netherlands

Amidst the awaited (rematch) between Spain and Netherlands, Louis van Gaal disclosed that his squad is eager to “enjoy” in Brazil and “survive” the 5-week competition.

Despite the pressure, van Gaal stressed that one should not forget how to “enjoy” instead of remaining trapped and crippled by the tension felt in the tournament.

Chile

After a long and agonizing wait, Arturo Vidal, one of Chile’s main players was declared a 100% fit. There is a strong possibility that he will be included in Jorge Sampaoli’s starting XI.

Vidal, who was also instrumental in Juventus’ third straight title experienced a knee inflammation. Problems became worse when he went through a meniscus surgery last month. Nevertheless, the country is now clear of all the worries and fears as medical reports cleared him of any injury concerns.

Australia

Australia’s Tim Cahill is prepared to take Chile’s “physicality” on the pitch. Socceroo’s top scorer disclosed that he is already expecting some hard tackle and challenge from their upcoming opponent.

Nevertheless, he shared that he will not allow any of these to distract him and help his country advance to the latter stage of world cup matches.
