World Cup’s Group B will open with a potentially massive bout between Spain and Netherlands. This battle is a repeat of the 2010 finals in South Africa, which ultimately named the Spanish side the overall champions. That said, Netherlands will be very desperate to avenge themselves against the 1-0 downfall they incurred four years ago. These sides’ last battle only produced one goal: a stoppage-time effort from Andres Iniesta. Hopefully in this upcoming meeting, a few more goals will be netted.

La Roja currently occupy the top spot of the FIFA rankings, which automatically qualifies them as among the favorites to win the entire competition. They are the defending champions, and regaining the victory is not impossible—but can be quite hard—at all. In addition to being the best side of the 2010 World Cup, Spain were also the top seeds in the 2008 and 2012 European Championships. Vicente del Bosque’s ensemble is an excellent mix of youth and experience, which should allow them to showcase outstanding form throughout the tilts.

Although they finished as runners up in the last World Cup, Netherlands only rank 15th in FIFA’s current rankings. This is largely due to the inconsistent displays they produced post-South Africa. Their recent results were a mixture of hits and misses. In fact, they never won in any competition between the latter part of 2013 and the first quarter of 2014. In the World Cup qualifications, however, Oranje were largely successful. They won nine out of their 10 fixtures, with the remainder being a draw. Although they will play against Spain in the finals’ opening, Netherlands still have a big possibility of advancing beyond the knockout stage.

World Cup betting tip: As with their last face-off, Spain would still be rendered as the dominant side over the Netherlands.
