Currently occupying the bottom half, Portugal and Ghana will fight tooth and nail to earn the elusive three points. The sides have each only earned one point from their first two Group-stage matches and they would certainly need more than that in order to climb into the top two.

Portugal

Portugal have nearly been eliminated in the Group stage’s second fixtures if not for the excellent stoppage-time goal from Silvestre Varela as assisted by Ronaldo. The match was dominated by the American squad, with Jermaine Jones firing an equalizer to Nani’s early opener and Clint Dempsey scoring a goal nine minutes into full time. The US also showed more saves than their Iberian opponents although Portugal delivered more shots. With a four-goal deficit and only one point earned, Portugal are in dire need of a victory in their last fixture. And if they must earn that privilege, they should score plenty of goals to dominate the ranking by goal difference.

Ghana

Ghana’s debut in the new World Cup edition was marred by a surprise downfall from the United States. Ayew netted a goal in the 82nd minute but it was only enough to level Dempsey’s opener and failed to put Brooks’ decisive goal at bay. In their most recent brawl, the side only earned a draw against Germany. The result was not necessarily bad, especially when considering how tough a German opposition could be, but they needed more than one point to rake opportunities for a Knockout stage ticket.

World Cup betting tip: Portugal will win this battle, but their dominance over Ghana could be very narrow.
