Cameroon and Croatia both lost all three points from their World Cup curtain raisers. The former lost in a clean sheet while the latter had to settle on zero spoils amid the controversies surrounding the penalties awarded against them.

Cameroon

Cameroon employed a defensive style against Mexico in their inaugural battle for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. It did work for some instances but ultimately faltered when their rivals had boosted their drive in the attack.

The Indomitable Lions produced some scares early in the competition and almost secured the opening leads in 20th minute when Benoît Assou-Ekotto’s stunning delivery from the left was flashed just wide by Samuel Eto’o in the box. Unfortunately, all efforts failed to be converted.

Croatia

Croatia were victims of an alleged favoritism of referee Yuichi Nishimura toward the host nation Brazil. The side succumbed to their rivals on a 3-1 finish, with at least one of the Brazilians’ goals undeservedly considered for penalty. Fred fell on the ground with such theatrics harming the Croatians’ chance at leveling the scoring. They had the early lead following an embarrassing own goal from Brazil’s Marcelo but was later turned around by Neymar who scored a brace—including the controversial penalty. To make things worse for vatreni, one of their goals was disallowed after contact with Selecao’s keeper, Julio Cesar.

World Cup betting tip: Croatia’s strong drive to obtain redemption will help them win over Cameroon.
