These two South American rivals have already met in 38 previous matches, including in the recent World Cup qualifications where they both won at home. In the Group stage, Colombia earned landslide wins while Uruguay attained two victories and one defeat.

Colombia

Los Cafeteros proved that they can be outstanding even without the presence of their most popular footballer, Falcao (who was not allowed to join the World Cup due to injury). The excellent—or rather perfect—results paved an easy entry toward the Knockout stage and the side are increasingly attracting new fans every passing day. With nine goals scored and only two conceded, they are one of the teams to watch.

With some of the players fully rested, Colombia is expected to start their last-16 campaign with intense energy. Rodriguez, Quintero, Martinez, Cuadrado, Gutierrez, and Armero—players who netted at least one goal in the Group stage—will set the thrill on fire.

Uruguay

Their poor curtain raiser left many spectators doubting about the side’s potential as World Cup champions. However, in their second fixture, Uruguay clinched a rousing victory which helped them gain back the trust of their supporters—thanks largely to the excellent brace of the freshly recovered Luis Suarez. In their last battle, Los Charruas scored a clean sheet through the spectacular effort of Godin.

Uruguay’s place in the tournament is almost looking safe and secure, except that it will go back to uncertainty after Suarez was banned for the rest of the tournament for an apparent biting of one of their opponents. The act stirred massive reactions in the social media and put the side’s World Cup fate in so much danger. Suarez’s removal from the ensemble will be a major blow for Uruguay because without him, the side will not function that way they should.

World Cup betting tip: Colombia will pull off a victory over Uruguay and secure a seat in the quarter-finals.
