Venue: Amman

Team Form

Jordan’s head coach, Hossam Hassan expressed his confidence on Al-Nashāmā and stressed that his camp does not fear the Uruguayan contenders.
In a press conference, Hassan emphasized that they are fully aware of Uruguay’s strength. However, he explained that their journey and success to the play-offs oblige them to stand up and face the heavy favorite of the upcoming match.

As part of their preparation, the squad is set to meet two of Africa’s biggest World Cup aspirants. These are Nigeria and Ghana. According to Hassan, going against these teams deliver an “excellent opportunity,” for them to assess their abilities. Such is crucial since there are new members in the squad.
Recently, Hassan has been at the center of criticisms as he pulled out suspended and injured players from the national squad.

Jordan made it to the playoffs via securing a victory over Uzbekistan. The dramatic penalty shootout resulted in a 9-8 score in their favor.

Pegged as the heavy favorite in the upcoming intercontinental playoff, Uruguay will definitely bank on experience to take down the Jordanian camp in the first leg of their awaited encounter. Uruguay’s strength is further affirmed by the news of Martin Caceres return in the squad.

It does not take rocket science why World Cup odds favor Uruguay. The team is a two-time World Cup holder and has proven to be a strong force in the recently concluded Confederations Cup where they finished on the 4th spot. The experience gained most especially from the latter’s tournament served as a potent preparation for the confrontation with Jordan. Moreover, with the high caliber players such as Edinson Cavani, Luis Suarez and the veteran Diego Forlan, there is no doubt that Uruguay is a great force to reckon with.

However, the squad must be wary of Jordan’s strength when playing in their own territory. They cannot miss any chances as this could prevent them from booking their World Cup berth.

The Verdict: Jordan 1-2 Uruguay
