After making it to the group stage last 2010, the Greeks will have another chance to make a stronger finish when they meet Romania in the awaited play-offs.

Greece endured a tough journey to the play-offs. Despite forcing a tie with Bosnia and Herzegovina, they failed to snatch the automatic World Cup spot since the latter had a better goal difference. Nevertheless, this neither diminishes nor lessens their chances of making it through the play-offs.

The likes of Dimitris Salpingidis and Giorgos Karagounis bring some scoring power in the pitch. In the match against Liechtenstein, Salpingidis scored the opening whilst Karagounis fired the final and winning goal.

The Salpingidis and Karagounis combination was not only felt during the final stages of the qualifying matches. Prior to the play-offs, the two were already prominent figure in the squad and will definitely feature in the initial stages of the encounter against Romania.

Although, Victor Pițurcă (Romania’s head coach), admitted that the Greeks are one incredible force in the pitch, this does not mean that Romania will easily throw the white towel. In as much as Greece struggled, during the initial stages of the qualifiers, they, too had their own share of down the wire matches.

Prior to the play-offs, Romania had to stand out in a tough group, which includes, Netherlands, Hungary, Estonia and Turkey. With high caliber players coming from different camps, Romania had to ensure that they have enough points and satisfactory goal difference to book a ticket to Brazil. They must  exert every effort to secure a victory due to the fierce competition among the aspiring participants. A clear proof to how stiff the rivalry was Romania’s 1-point lead over Hungary.

During the battle against Greece, one of the would be prominent figures is Romania’s team captain, Vlad Chiriches. Known for his knack of spotting and stopping scoring opportunities, he will be one of the squad’s defence pillars against the organized Greece. C

Ciprian Marica is also to watch out for. With his versatility, he can bring some aggressiveness in the midfield and immediately shift as a reliable striker on the pitch.

World Cup betting tip: Greece 2-1 Romania

Greece will definitely benefit from playing in their own ground. However, they cannot be too complacent as Romania had more World Cup experience and appearance than them.
