FIFA U-17 World Cup Semi-finals: Argentina vs. Mexico

FIFA U-17 World Cup Semi-finals: Argentina vs. Mexico

Match Date: 05 November 2013

Match Venue: Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi

Argentina

In the 2011 edition of the FIFA U-17 World Cup, Argentina only finished in the Round of 16 stage. This time around, however, the South American superpower are already on the brink of winning the entire tournament. Argentina’s quarter-final rally against Ivory Coast gave them the ticket to advance to the semi-finals. Joaquin Ibanez opened the scoring for Albicelestes in the sixth minute and Rodrigo Moreyra followed it up with another goal several minutes before half time.

What was expected to be an Argentine clean sheet was later debunked after Franck Kessie netted a goal for the African side in the 78th minute. The remaining time in the match was stormed by a flood of imposing defenses from both sides, which eventually locked the tourney in a 2-1 final score, in favor of Argentina.

Mexico

The defending champions are very much eager to protect their title, and in so doing, they had to pass first the tournament’s quarterfinals. And passing the round they did, El Tricolor narrowly won over Brazil. The Mexicans overcame their South American rivals after drawing 1-1 through 120 minutes and winning a brilliant penalty shootout 11-10.

With Raul Gutierrez—the very person that sent the country to victory in 2011—still at the helm, there is a huge possibility that Mexico would be able to advance through the finals and even win the title for the second consecutive time.

World Cup betting tip: This battle will see two Latin American countries fight tooth and nail for the esteemed FIFA U-17 World Cup title. Both sides are undeniably strong; Argentina have improved very well from their last appearance in the tournament, while Brazil have maintained a strong traction to the competition. However, no matter how much of a thriller this match would exude, Mexico will still end up as the victorious troupe.
