FIFA U-17 World Cup Preview: Slovakia vs. UAE

FIFA U-17 World Cup Preview: Slovakia vs. UAE

Match Date: 23 October 2013 (local)

Match Venue: Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi

Slovakia

Drawing with Honduras in their most recent 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup battle (group stage), Slovakia picked up one point to keep them afloat of the group table’s bottom spot. Tomas Vestenicky’s equalizer in the 48th minute, along with another goal in the 57th, nearly put his squad to the winning zone; except that Honduras’ Jorge Bodden was able to strike an injury-time goal and held Slovakia to a 2-2 draw. The result partly compensated the side’s poor debut in the tournament, where they were bludgeoned by Brazil in a 6-1 finish. However, it is still a weak factor to help them ascend in the table a bit higher. The troupe are faced with an expectedly massive string of future tourneys, and that they need to exhaust all their resources for them to advance in the competition’s higher stages.

UAE

Although UAE’s interest in youth teams has significantly risen in recent years, the U-17 national team still seem to be a little bit behind of their contemporaries. In their first two matches in the group round of the FIFA U-17, for example, the side barely delivered a score. A disappointing 1-2 finish in favor of Honduras capped UAE’s debut in the competition. In their second (and most recent) battle, they were massively pounded by Brazil after the Latin Americans scored six goals against the Emiratis’ one. Brazil apparently dominated the match’s first 84 minutes, and if not for the late rally by Zayed Al Ameri, UAE would have gone home empty-handed.

World Cup betting tip: In this combat, Slovakia may have the slight upper hand over UAE. However, none of them can be considered clear favorites. Both teams lack a reliable defense and their attacks only show fairly acceptable conversion skills. This match will be a tight one, but will ultimately finish in a low-scoring draw.
