Venue: Stade Mustapha Tchaker

Team Form

Midfielder Adlène Guedioura shall be missing the last leg of the play-off against Burkina Faso. The 27-year old player sustained a broken rib and a punctured lung during the West Bromwich Albion encounter. He is expected to be sideline for at least 6 weeks.

The news of Guedioura’s injury creates a major impact for his national squad. Algeria lost the first leg and another defeat could result to their elimination in the World Cup.

Known for his long-range shots, Guedioura scored 2 goals for Algeria. His absence means less attacking options for the squad.
In 2010, Algeria made it to Round 1 of the competition. This was their third Round 1 feat. The first was in 1982 and was immediately followed in 1986. However, they failed to qualify  since 1990 until in 2010 .

Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso’s chances of securing its World Cup berth went even higher with the return of Alain Traore.

Traore whom Paul Put (Burkina Faso’s head coach) described as a player who brings an “extra” in every match was unable to participate in the play-off’s first leg due to injury. The player has been struggling with injury-related issues and missed some of his country’s international competition.

Burkina Faso secured a narrow win against Algeria during their first encounter. The squad scored 3 important goals whilst Algeria can only come up with 2. With the initial victory and Traore’s return, the club is a step away from making it to Brazil.

Nevertheless, Put is not taking the upcoming match lightly. To ensure their victory, the squad will travel to Morocco to have a 5-day training.
