FIFA Club World Cup Morocco: Guangzhou Evergrande vs. Bayern München

FIFA Club World Cup Morocco: Guangzhou Evergrande vs. Bayern München

Match Date: 17 December 2013 (local)

Match Venue: Stade Adrar, Agadir

Guangzhou Evergrande

The year 2013 has so far been a magnificent campaign period for Guangzhou, having claimed their third Chinese Super League title in October and secured a first AFC Champions League trophy a month later. Marcello Lippi’s men have only been beaten four times this year and will be full of confidence following their clean sheet, quarter-final victory over Al Ahly last weekend.

This will be Guangzhou maiden voyage to the FIFA Club World Cup, and are expected to capitalize on their three South American stars to cause upset to other clubs. Muriqui, Elkeson and Dario Conca all stepped up in their battle against Al Ahly in Agadir, with the latter two scoring the goals in their win 2-0.

Bayern Munich

The German football juggernauts will start their pursuit for a fifth title (in all competitions) of 2013 when they meet Guangzhou Evergrande in Tuesday’s FIFA Club World Cup semi-final. Pep Guardiola’s lads have already won the Bundesliga (the season that ended May this year; they are also front running the current term), the UEFA Champions League, the DFB-Pokal, and the UEFA Super Cup—all in the current year.

This will be Bayern’s first time playing in the competition its current format, arriving in Morocco on top of the league. Guardiola has won the competition twice before—with Barcelona in 2009 and 2011—and despite their successes this year he has required his side to stay on focus after being dissatisfied with their performance against Hamburg on weekend.

World Cup betting tip: This would be the very first time Guangzhou Evergrande and Bayern Munich will compete in a match—and both of the clubs are making their debut in the competition. Both sides are their countries’ respective top seeds, but their adeptness to subdue one another is yet to be tested. In this fixture, a spine-tingling draw must be expected.
