Club World Cup Morocco Play-offs: Raja Casablanca vs. Auckland City

Club World Cup Morocco Play-offs: Raja Casablanca vs. Auckland City

Match Date: 11 December 2013 (local)

Match Venue: Stade Adrar, Agadir

Raja Casablanca

After failing to top the 2011-12 season of the Moroccan top-tier league, Raja Casablanca came back strong in the next season after earning 19 victories, nine draws, and just two defeats over the course of the campaign. They were four points clear of runners up FAR Rabat and 18 of third placers MAS Fez. The overall victory was also the catalyst in the side’s qualification to host the 2013 FIFA Club World Cup.

For the current season, Vox Populi seem to be less impressive than the past year. They opened their campaign with a dull draw with Oplympic Safi and followed it up with a dismaying defeat from Khouribga. While the following fixtures have been agreeable, the online betting frontrunners bounced back to terrible records after forcing a deadlock with derby rival Wydad Casablanca and succumbing to Difaâ El Jadida. As a result, the defending champions are now five spots lower than their position from last season.

Auckland City

Auckland City have been undefeated for seven consecutive matches now, in all competitions. Of that number, two were draws while the rest were inspiring triumphs. The side are currently at the second spot of the Premiership table (behind cross-town rivals Waitakere United), after accumulating seven points from the tournament’s opening matches.

The Navy Blues are no stranger to the FIFA Club World Cup. This year’s edition would already be the side’s fifth opportunity to participate in the tournament. While their past records did not give them striking reputation as football giants, they were not necessarily an indicator of the squad’s frailty in the global arena. Having advanced to the finals itself is already suggestive of Auckland City’s zeal and determination.

World Cup betting tip: While it is difficult to weigh the capabilities of two sides that have never battled out before, this match will likely favor Auckland City over Raja Casablanca. The Oceania team’s form suggests stronger assurance of victory than the North African club’s.
