Club World Cup Morocco 2013: The CF Monterrey Story

Club World Cup Morocco 2013: The CF Monterrey Story

The past tournaments were not necessarily terrible for football betting favorites CF Monterrey, but they were inconsistent at most points. In their maiden voyage to the Club World Cup in 2011, the team showed brisk stunts that were enough to give them berth in the semi-finals, eliminated only by English squad Chelsea. The following year, Los Rayados dwindled in the graph, only reaching fifth place.

While the aforesaid competitions generally put the squad in a less bright spot relative to other clubs (around the world), Monterrey were staggeringly remarkable in the domestic and continental leagues. The club relished success in recent years, winning four league titles (1986, 2003, 2009 and 2010), a Copa México (1991), and three consecutive victories in the CONCACAF Champions League tournaments (2011, 2012 and 2013).

Los Rayados’ seeding in the Club World Cup Morocco this year is proof of the club’s ingenuity when it comes to the global showpiece. Their experience should now be enough to make them land in a much higher position than they achieved the past editions. By now, they should already know which things work, and which ones do not. Even the slightest error in the pitch can prove detrimental to their form. However, with a Humberto Suazo still in tip-top shape, and the entire team showing strong determination, Monterrey are off to a magnificent journey to the finals.

New coach Jose Guadalupe Cruz aims to place his new club in Mexico’s history as the first CONCACAF club to reach (and win) the finals of the FIFA Club World Cup. His predecessor, Victor Vucetich, had exuded commendable coaching skills that led to the Mexican team’s sizable success in the tournament. But Cruz, who is yet to show his knack for finding depth in his players’ performance, is confident that he will be able to surpass the erstwhile coach’s achievements.
